All about OIP. My trip to Wuhan, China.
I went to Hua Si Yi Fu Zhong, some ultra pro middle school and i boarded there for 2 weeks. I interacted with the students there and at the same time went around china for sightseeing. On the second week i went to Hua Yi school (pri 1 - sec 3) to teach the sec 1s English. Here are the pics.

Ok i Had a lot of fun in the school :)

then we had a tour of wuhan :)

Ok then for the weekends i went to my host, Baker's house. He was a really nice (and rich) guy and his family was very welcoming. They brought me to many places to visit and eat :)

time to blog.
its been a very long time since i blogged about my life.
Term 4 so far is good. my results are much much much better than my term 3 results.
Got my Blue belt ! YAY
Got Judo Vice capt and Infocomm Vice capt for 2009
still theres this stupid thing called EOY comming up.
And Everybody hates it.
Thankfully my CLE (character and leadership edctn) teacher and my Form Teacher are trying to liven up the mood.
My CLE teacher Mr.Law is great. he never fails to cheer us up! once he thought us some bad jap words but those were to defend ourselves if someone from japan curses us >.< but anyway he never fails to make us happy =)

THBT pornography should be banned. (opposition)

Clash: Whether pornography is immoral, whether pornography has bad implications for society

Context: Age of internet, where porn videos are easily accessible by many, today is an evaluation of the influence of these videos and how we can protect the relevant groups.
Baseline: We believe that pornography should not be banned because it is a legitimate form of expression and entertainment and can benefit society.

1st Substantive

Porn is a form of expression.

Expressions are demonstrations of people’s views and ideas.

Expressions are good for a societal dialectic, which sees a constant exchange of views that will ultimately lead to societal development.

Therefore porn will ultimately contribute to societal development- this has already manifested as porn has been the driving force behind high definition videos.

Expressions can only be limited if they cause substantial harm to society, in which the proposition have not convinced us of.

Limiting expressions is thus limiting development as it limits the dialectical process, and has a lesser incentive for society to generate ideas.

Therefore porn brings about societal development, and banning it will compromise principles such as the dialectic and freedom of expression.

Furthermore, starting with banning porn, the government may also use protecting the people as an excuse to ban other forms of expression for its own aims.

This may lead to a slippery slope.

2nd Substantive

Porn is a form of entertainment.

Entertainment lets us relieve pressure, in which porn is especially good at.

Porn is also an easily accessible form of entertainment as it can be downloaded from the internet.

Therefore banning porn is banning a legitimate form of entertainment which has benefits as a form of easily accessible and cheap entertainment.

In our globalised world which operates at a fast pace, entertainment is especially important, and porn in this case can let us leave our world for a moment and enjoy ourselves.

These benefits from entertainment has manifested in real terms.

Kutchinsky in 1973 and 1985 conducted studies on Denmark and Germany respectively and had shown how legalizing pornography led to reduced sexual crimes. The results have also been replicated in Japan by Abramson and Hayashi.

Therefore porn benefits society as a form of entertainment and can lead to reduced sexual crime rates.

Therefore, considering how porn is a form of expression and leads to benefits to individual and society, porn should not be banned.

3nd Substantive

Freedom of choice is important as it respects the individuality and dignity of each person and their choices.

We say that as long as their choices do not compromise on others, their choice must be respected.

Not respecting their choice is a form of oppression that team opposition does not tolerate.

The choice of watching pornography is perfectly legitimate and we say that it is important to individuals and society.

We are not extending this choice to very young children as we feel that they are unable to make that choice, due to a lack of understanding of themselves, the society and pornography.

Even if they may be detriments of pornography, taking away choice is not the way to go.

Side proposition must realize that life is not a bed of roses, and we are faced with many choices throughout out life.

Some of the choices, when made wrongly, can severely compromise our lives.

However, side proposition aims to take away those choices from the people.

Firstly, that is clearly impossible due to the infinite choices that we make.

Secondly, an analogy can be drawn to an overprotective parent, which will lead to lack of independence of the child.

This is detrimental to the child, as the child will be over dependent and incapable of making choices.

When we are not given the chance to make choices, we do not accumulate experience to help us make better choices in the future.

Even if we are shielded from some tough choices, we may make others wrongly, and a child without experience will continue to do so.

The more you protect the child, the more he is unable to make choices, which will result in a greater need to protect the child.

This leads to a vicious cycle that side proposition must resolve.

Contrast this to independent people that team opposition wants to see in the society, by letting them make choices.

If they made a wrong choice, they may suffer but will emerge more experienced from then onwards.

We see a period where people may make a few wrong choices at the start, but they will gain experience and make better choices in the future.

Banning porn takes away ability of the people to make choices, and will result in a society that is not independent and one that will keep making wrong choices.

Had sex education for CLE (character and leadership education) today.
Here are a few important and interesting things I learnt. >.<

1) Men can get raped by women too.

World's oldest condom

The oldest surviving condom in the world has gone on display in an Austrian museum.

The reusable condom dates back to 1640 and is completely intact, as is its orginal users' manual, written in Latin.

Back seat lovers survive cliff plunge

Two lovers ended up in hospital in Taiwan after their car plunged 150ft down a cliff face as they made love in the back seat.

Lin Gu, 25, and lover Lee Shin, 29, were left with broken bones and bruises after their car toppled over the edge of a hill in XinDian, reports Today News.

A spokesman for police who were called by witnesses said: "They had parked up close to the edge of the mountain and had left the handbrake off.

"When they started having sex the rocking motion started the car moving and it rolled off the hill. They were lucky they were not more seriously hurt."

The two lovers had driven to a deserted mountain road and parked but their movements made the car topple over the edge and roll down to the bottom of the valley.

Despite their injuries - and being covered with mud and grass - the couple managed to clamber back up to the road where the woman asked the man to keep walking while she sought help at a nearby house.

Research shows that breast gazing is good for the heart.

Although politically incorrect this titillating study may be very good news for men.

The New England Journal of Medicine reports that staring at women’s breasts is good for a man’s health and can add years to his life. The journal reports gerontologist Dr. Karen Weatherby™s findings that â€˜Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a female is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out.™

Dr. Weatherby and researchers at three hospitals in Frankfurt, Germany compared the health of 200 male outpatients. The study required half of the men to look at well endowed females every day. The other half were to refrain from this.

After five years of breast watching the study revealed that bosom-watchers had lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates and fewer instances of coronary artery disease.

Dr. Weatherby reports that sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation.

The study indicates that staring at breasts for a few minutes each day cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack in half. Surely there has to be a more politically correct way!

in a desperate attempt to save my blog

Mugging

When I last told air that rafflesians mug, she got shocked and said "you steal?”
It is not a common term in other countries, but over here, it’s more than common. Mugging is an aspect of social life that actually destroys social life in a certain sense. "Many just do not realize the need to study now," says the common teacher. The sad part is, we mug so much we do not even realize anything. The aim of this post is not to convince people not to mug but to spend time on other aspects of life too.

Firstly, "over"mugging is bad for health. The more I want to present scientific evidence for this the more closer I am to getting kicked out of the school. Apart from developing butt sores from the endless hours of sitting in the chair, most Singaporeans develop short sightedness by the time they even reach puberty. Though many may argue that the "spectacles revolution" is caused by the current interest in gaming, no one can dispute that the endless hours of staring at your textbooks and notes is going to cause eye problems. Apart from these, "over"mugging can clearly be a cause of weight problems. People should be going out to keep fit rather than spending hours in a chair and claim to be keeping fit by eating healthy foods.

Social life is affected. Many of us do not even have the time to interact with our family or friends. The common reply would be, “no, I have tests coming up/projects due". If we want our future to be good, why not forge strong friendships and form bonds with our families first? Many parents complain that their sons leave before the sun rises and return after it sets. Yet, they do not communicate with their parents much as there would be a 101 things going on in their mind such as deadlines etc. Is this form of under-communication help students become potential leaders? Are they going to have any problems communicating with others? Or are they going to write essays in the future to communicate?

I feel that teachers should do something about this to ease the pace of life. All of them argue that they are only giving one project/test but when you put all 10 subjects together we are going to have countless modes of assessments. This is what turns us into muggers. Now with the pressure from our CCAs and leadership roles, we would rather focus more on our studies and leave out our other commitments. It is hard to find a mugger who excels in his CCA but it is much easier to find one who has no CCA commitments at all.

However, I do have to agree that this is very much a form of training to get us prepared for the future. I do salute the rafflesians who have passed through this stage of life.

To end this very boring argument in a lighter note, I found a non-profit organization in Facebook and I very much support it. You should be able to guess.

Exams can sometimes lead to the death of some people. This is because the failing of examinations can cause students to suffer sever depression and breakdowns, which often lead to suicide. So I say this to all my fellow students, join me in my cause to STOP EXAMS and SAVE TREES, as this can also be beneficial to nature and provide assistance to prevent global warming.

The Only True Guide to Learning how to Hack

You stay up all night on the PC typing and typing. No, you're not hacking. You're begging someone on IRC to teach you how to hack! Let's look at the facts:

You're a luser and you're annoying. No one likes you if you ask others how to hack without taking the least amount of initiative.
You're not worthy of any title even resembling hacker, cracker, phreaker, etc., so don't go around calling yourself that! The more you do, the less likely you are to find someone willing to teach you how to hack (which is an infinitesimal chance, any way).
You're wasting your time (if you couldn't infer that in the first place). Many real hackers (not those shitty script kiddies) spend all their insomniac hours reading and, yes even, HACKING! (Hacking doesn't necessarily (but usually does) mean breaking into another system. It could mean just working on your own system, BUT NOT WINDOWS '9x (unless you're doing some really menacing registry shit, in which case, you're kind of cool).)

You're probably thinking, "Then what should I do. If no one's going to help me, how can I learn to hack?" Have you ever tried READING (I assume this far that you are literate). Read anything and everything you can get your hands on! I recommend hitting a computer store and looking for discount books (books that are usually out of date, but so are a lot of the systems on the 'net, so they're still relevant!). You'll be surprised what you can learn from a book even when you're paying a dollar for every hundred pages. I recommend the following books to start off with:

Maximum Security I or II: this is not a guide to hacking, despite what you might have heard, but you can get enough info to learn the basics of how hackers hack! (Isn't that more fun than being lamed, email bombed, and kicked off IRC).
Practical Unix and Internet Security (Sec. Edition): This is mostly a book about how to secure Unix (if you don't know what Unix is, either shoot yourself now, or read O'Reilly's Learning the Unix OS), but half of learning to hack is learning a system from the inside out. How can you expect to hack a site (w/o using a kiddie script, which i must restate, is NOT hacking) if you don't know how to use the system?!
Linux Unleashed/Red Hat Linux Unleashed: these books are kind of cool. First of all, they come with Red Hat Linux (*sigh*, just go to www.linux.org and read everything there) 5.1 and 5.2 respectively (if you get the newest versions of the book, which you should). Read everything you can from it.
Sendmail in a nutshell: This is only after you read everything else. Sendmail, for those of you who still don't know, is a program that sends mail. It sounds stupid, but this is a buggy program, and usually is the avenue of attack many hackers take because of it's vulnerabilities.
TCP/IP Blueprints: this will clear up a lot of things concerning TCP/IP.
TCP/IP Administration: haven't read it, but can't wait to! (I've been bogged down by a lot of other REAL computer stuff).

After you've read them all, re-read them! Trust me, you gain a ton of information the second time you read them just as you gain perspicacity the second time through a movie with a twisted plot.
Then, read a ton of RFCs. RFCs are Request for Comments by the people who practically shaped the Internet. Here is a good list of RFCs (the books above give about the same list):

RFC1675 - Security Concerns for IPng
RFC1704 - On Internet Authentication

That's it for now. If anything else interests you about the Internet, try to look up an RFC for it. Read anything you can about Internet security in general (but not stuff like "How to Hack" (but keep reading this!)). Subscribe to mailing lists. Some of my favorites are bugtraq, happy hacker (interesting stuff), and MC2. By now, you should be advanced enough to breeze through Carolyn Meinel's "Guide to (mostly) Harmless Hacking." It's got some interesting stuff, but not enough to be "3l1t3." Okay, now for the big step: the step from lamer to hacker! If you have not already, install Linux. Now it's okay for you to go online to usenet groups and ask for help installing Linux, 'cuz quite frankly, it's pretty fucking hard! NEVER, EVER, EVER expect to get it on the first try just right. The next thing to do is learn programming. I recommend learning C++ first because it will help you understand a lot about programming, it's easy to use, and is a lot like the other programming languages you should also learn. Read these books:

Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days: the name says it all
Learning Perl: an AMAZING book on learning Perl
Programming Perl: the next step after Learning Perl
Perl Cookbook: the next step after Programming Perl
Core Java (Volume I & II): these books are by the makers of Java. Java is a really cool language to say the least, but you should at least learn C++ before so you can understand classes.

Now, you may be saying I may have been a bit hypocritical by saying not to ask how to hack but to ask about installing Linux. The thing is that Linux people are usually pretty nice, and the people who are Linux gurus want more than anything for Linux to prosper, and are willing to help you out. Oh, by the way, if you've installed Linux the way you want it (which does not include throwing you Linux box out the window and yelling, "I LIKE THIS JUST FINE!"), congratulations. You have now earned my respect.

Okay, I mentioned kiddie scripts earlier, and I'll follow up on it now. Kiddie Scripts are auto hacking programs that will do all the work for you. You don't want that. I do condone downloading them and learning from them, but don't become a script kiddie. The only place they go in life is jail (not where you want to be).

Now, you should know a great deal about hacking. You have a compendium of information at your fingertips with a mental index. You want the best advice? Don't hack. Odds are, you will get caught, and then it goes down on your criminal record, and unless you did something fan-fucking-tastic, like hacking the white house security cameras and get video of Slick Willie getting a BJ, you can pretty much kiss your computer future goodbye, cuz no one will hire a convicted hacker. If you do hack, be a white hat hacker. For example, upon breaking into a site, leave a note maybe including how to contact you (not through the phones, mail, real email address etc., do it through a hotmail account or something) or how to fix it. They may be nice enough to offer you a job! That's right, there are some people who get paid to hack and do what they love.

In conclusion, you may have noticed that this was not a real guide to hacking. That's because there is no one resource for hacking. This was a guide to LEARNING how to hack, which, if you want to be a real hacker, you will have to do. There is no one way to hack. (If so, it would be a lot easier for system administrators to keep you out!) It's a variety of different tricks as well as the ability to keep up with current vulnerabilities in software and hardware. You should also learn how to program. Even though Kevin Mitnick was infamous among the hacker culture for being the most wanted cracker, he couldn't even write his own exploits! That's pretty sad. Please use whatever information you have wisely and responsibly, and distribute it only to people who are worthy of it.

Blocking access to undesirable Web sites through the use of Internet protocol filters has been a common government tactic since commercial Internet access first became available here in 1995. China and Saudi Arabia are believed to extend greater censorship over the net than any other country in the world under the pretext of information control.

Approach 1: There are websites Anonymizer who fetch the blocked site/ page from their servers and display it to you. As far as the service provider is concerned you are viewing a page from Anonymizer and not the blocked site.

Approach 2: To access the blocked Web site. type the IP number instead of the URL in the address bar. But if the ISP software maps the IP address to the web server (reverse DNS lookup), the website will remain blocked.

Approach 3: Use a URL redirection service like tinyurl.com or snipurl.com. These domain forward services sometimes work as the address in the the url box remain the redirect url and do not change to the banned site.

Approach 6: A recent Oreilly story on accessing blocked websites suggested an approach to access restricted web sites using Google language tools service as a proxy server. Basically, you have Google translate your page from English to English (or whatever language you like). Assuming that Google isn’t blacklisted in your country or school, you should be able to access any site with this method. Visit this site via Google Proxy

Approach 7: Anonymous Surfing Surf the internet via a proxy server. A proxy server (or proxies) is a normal computer that hides the identity of computers on its network from the Internet. Which means that only the address of the proxy server is visible to the world and not of those computers that are using it to browse the Internet. Just visit the proxy server website with your Web browser and enter a URL (website address) in the form provided.

today was sooooooooooooooo SOOO SO FUN!!!

okok im leaving out sports meet details and getting on to the main point.

a gal actually asked her fren to help her ask for my number. complicated eh? haha and this gal's cute... >.<

yea and i know she was staring at me and of cuz i was also staring at her... and everywhere i went wiv jing dong jy and aloy i'd see her wiv her group of frens... coincidence? nah... fate? mayb

so an sms conver ensued and we introduced ourselves and i asked her to go kap to meet me...

she said im mean at first. >.<

was eating halfway when she arrived wiv her frens... caught her stare and quikly turned away... pretend nvr see... went toilet... came out of toilet saw them sitting at the reserved seats and smone was pointing at me and jumping... dunno was her anot dint see properly... then her fren came and called me over... so i juz went over and waved at her

i came back from infocomm camp.veri fun:)
had a few games until 1 am in the night.lol
ok one of them was about tryin to find 3 items in the feild- a cup a plastic bag and a mike.sounds easy? well try doing that in our feild at 11.30pm wil one stupid small torch.lol

and then got sharades.i was given the word LMAOZEDONG.firstly i din know hu the hell mao ze dong was and secondly its freakin difficult to act it OUT!!!lol

then after a few games we were given a letter for each station. and it spelt wei jian. our infocomm capt.soo we had to find him. we asked one of our leaders(feng chi) where he was.he said he din know.then we headed for the comp lab.we met this guy(another senior) there and he said go to the bio lab.bio lab? at 11.50? WTF cos our bio lab is 'haunted'(cos of the feotus and blahblahblah'.then i was the only sec 2 in my grp.the rest were all sec 1s.they were freakin scared when they were going up.and they were slow.so i shouted. F***en hell~! ITS ONLY A F***IN BABY! WHAT THE F*** CAN IT DO! JUST HURRY UP.lol.i looked at the time when we reached the bio lab.excactly.12.00.-.-
but HE WAS NO THERE!so we sadly went back to report as time was up. i asked our seniors what happened.when we first asked feng chi where wei jian was, he called wei jian and told him that we were after him.so he asked him to run out of the comp lab and go third floor. WTF!!!
OK LA. BUT the good thing was this.next day, they had one crumpler bag from billabong left after givin out all the prizes to the seniors for their hard work.lol.it was worth 120+.lol
so they decided to give it away.and they asked a qs.how old is MR.x(a senior who is in the SAF now).and i asked him the day be4.and i said the ans. and i got it.=)

malaysian montage. the 4 days i spent there were great..haha.ok =>
first day we went to some forest reserve. and we planted some trees and we get to write our names next to it.yay(reforestation).got press coverae too.so u shld have seen us in the paper on tuesday. lol.

first had a 8 course lunch at orna golf resort.
=> lighthouse trek.a cool forest with a lighthouse on top.we had to trek all the way up. damn hard.got so many vines and mospuitoes. and a lot of spiny trees. we were freakin tired after the whole thing. then weent back to hotel for western food lunch.=)
=>kampong pelengong. a quiet place. had a few games there(get to throw water bombs at teachers! WOOHOO!ok one teacher got pissed off wif me as she missed 5 waterbombs at me.and i think she is chinkie's form teacher. then we ate suger cane(yummy). then went to a house there and saw a cute little 1 1/2 yr old kid. he saw a butterfly and said 'cuculuku!' and i think thats wat butterfly in malay is! haha..then saw a wedding and some dances.quite interesting.

went to FRIM (forest research institute of Malaysia)another forest.we went there for canopy walk.we had to go all the way up (again).and wtf there so many leeches!!and they look like 1/2 a needle. but they can suck so much blood until the size of ur thumb! eew. anyway we went up for the canopy walk (30 m above ground.) and i had this idot infront of me on the bridge swearin and shakin it violently.

went to batu caves.
a limestone cave so huge in the midDdle of a city.lol..had to climb 272 steps to get up there.and there were freakin lot of monkeys in the steps and they were trailing us(cos we had drinks)lol.then went all the way up and saw the huge cave.had to wear helmets(caps) cos the bats and pigeons dropped bombs(droppings).>.< =>
then we went to chocalte house.buy chocolates lar.o yea they sold durain chocalates(smells like hell tastes like heaven) and tongkat ali chocolates.(if u don know what they can do ask ur father)

then went to petronask tower OR KL tower. 4th tallest building in the world. we went all the way up to the MEGA view deck and had high tea there.good thing was that we can eat and at the same time lie on the glass panels and look 320 m down.cool.

then went to petaing street.ok this place was like a night market and it rockED!bought a nike t-shirt for 1/2 the price only 20rm and a cool sweater for 1/4 the price.i bargained it like hell.from 120rm to 30rm.cool.then bought this cute mr bean bear for only 5 rm.lol.the people there were freaky.they will chase after you to sell stuff.lol
then went to shangrila rest. to have steamboat dinner.
=>next day went to putrajaya.quite a boring place except for the buildings there.lol.they were big.
=>then had satay lunch
and then go home...haix.

IP programme.......is it really good? i mean is the IP programme really working???hm...

we get stressed until we cant take it??

a few years back RI had an extremely good yr in sports...then...after the introductiion of IP...my senior said that the gold took a deep plunge...hmmm...nevermind rp makes us happy anyway.

Without the intervening "O"-Level exams, the core knowledge learnt will not be deeply rooted in the students' heads, let alone the extra things learnt. This programme, according to the Singapore Ministry of Education, is for student who can benefit from a less structured syllabus, and who are “clearly university bound”, where they engage in more independent learning, such as taking up "special programmes" to help them develop their personal interests, on top of the core content based lessons. For example, in Hwa Chong Institution there are the Humanities Programme, Language Elevtive Programme, Science and Maths Research Programme and etc.

However, all these are based on one assumption, that the students are extremely self-disciplined. So much so that they will make sure that they manage their time so well and that they are so good at studying that they will remember all the core contents taught to them and yet find enough time to engage actively in independent learning.

However, this is a utopia. Not all students are so self-disciplined. In fact, most are not. Without an important watershed intervening national examination to stress them out so that they are forced to master all their core knowledge, failing which they will meet their waterloo, they will simply slacken off!

This programme is allegedly for clearly university bound students. Thus it can be inferred that if an IP student flunked his/her A Levels, he/she will meet his/her waterloo! For non-IP students, had they, god forbid, flunked their A Levels, they still have an O Level certificate to fall back on, which will at least get them a mediocre job. However, without this safety net, once IP students flunked their A-Levels, good grief, they will be left with no qualifications but a Primary School Leaving Examinations certificate! What kind of job can someone with primary school education get?
